Creating a Site in Dreamweaver

What is a site?

Sites are like project folders. For each project you're working on, stay organized by creating a site for each. Then all webpages, graphics, objects, etc. with a shared purpose will be stored together as a single site. Depending on the scope of your responsibilities, you might have a separate website for different departments, or faculty members, or special events on campus. However, if you're responsible for only one department's information, then one site is probably all you'll create and manage.

How to create a site

The menu command Site, Define Sites opens this dialog box:

With Local Info selected on the left, give the new site a name in the Site Name: field. For Local Root Folder, click the yellow folder to find the desired storage location on your hard drive. The following shows a new site named CustomerService stored in the local folder called Customer Service Site:

At this point you can OK the Site Definition box, agree to the cache question upon Oking, and then begin to create web pages. However, if you know more about your web site, you can define it further at this point or later.
