Grading Systems

This information is for instructors wanting to change/improve their grading systems. It's not designed as step-by-step instruction mainly because your needs certainly vary. Instead you'll find several pages to help you in creating/improving your grading system.   A few pages explain using multiple worksheets in Excel (usually desired skills when developing an Excel-based grading system). For those pages with a sample file you can download, start here: Using Multiple Excel Worksheet. (If you've never used Excel you'll first need to learn at least a bit about Excel in order to understand the information on the above link. Workshops we offer are found here: Descriptions of Workshops )

Rather than do it alone, you could turn to the Internet  for instruction.  On this page you'll find explanations and links to pages others have created.  Many include step-by-step instructions and sample files for grading systems.

Besides instruction, the Internet offers some rather sophisticated software products. I've found several free ones  and also not so free.  There's also an Excel add-on geared towards creating a gradebook that is available from several sites; a brief explanation and link to dowloading it is found  here.  Do realize Hanover's Academic Computing did not develop or customize any of these products nor can we support any particular grading scheme you might choose. So, user beware--and use common sense: keep your old grading methods in place until fully testing the new. With that in mind, go here if you're interested in seeing, maybe using, some of the grading products:  Grading Solutions on the Internet
